A Consciousness Of Life

by

G. Redhawk

Brings me back to my primal Self.

That part of me that is total Earth and all that she represents.

I see Rocky Mountains when I hold the earth as well as endless,

Forests that make up others parts of the Island .

I smell the Evergreens and the Aspens and the raw dirt after a,

Thunderstorm has transformed the air into an,

Electric, alive energy.

I see the powerful high peaks that surround,

Two Medicine River in Glacier Park .

I feel the cool, alive chill in the air that surrounds,

The gently flowing stream that is the true source,

Of life in that part of the universe.

I hear the intense cry of the Magpie's as they talk of,

Coming humans and the possibility of a meal from,

Their grateful benefactors, who live to see the multicolored,

Beings of happiness in flight that make up these,

Mischievous creatures.

I watch in my minds eye as the doe and fawn walk from the,

Protection of their modest wooded glade, to gently drink of the,

Pure, sweet water that promises to sustain them while sleeping as,

They retreat to their resting lodgings, deep in the woodland.

My mind slips back in time to another life, when my mother,

Little River and father Two Feathers and I are traversing,

Down from the high, fertile hunting plateaus deep in the,

Mountains, back to our winter camp.

I see the lake upon whose shores we will rest through,

The moons of ice.

This lake so dear to me, this mythic place of life beginning,

As I emerge and transform from beaver to human, to begin,

The long, painful journey back to where I come to Light.

I see the golden glow of the aspen, as the sun fades in the,

West knowing I will soon be joining the Grandfathers again,

And talking of the next life to come.
